La Folie Community Projects on Done Daeng

One of our aims is to raise the standard of living on the island by means of the recruitment and training of local staff this way poverty is slowly eliminated. La Folie actively encourage protection of local culture and environment.

Several measures have been taken to achieve this, like recycling and composting our waste, by donating a “Green and Clean” price for three of the best kept property’s, like this we encourage the villages to participate and do the same. There are plans to protect a substantial amount of local architecture which is rapidly disappearing. We work actively on embankment protection planting and education, as the rainy season takes its toll of the island every year.

In the past we have been involved in varies other support project on the island, such as Micro Loans to Villagers in need, as well as the plantation of more than 150 trees along the roads on the island after they have been cut down to make way for electricity pylons. We also financed the building of several bridges on the island with the labor donated by the villagers.

Our school building program Ban Bang Sai is well under way with the new school half finished build by the parents themselves, the new roof on now thanks to the generous contribution of our clients and a dollar from La Folie Lodge for every 10 $ collected. Last year we received a large contribution from a school in Australia the children had collected it in order to help, thank you to all of you. In 2012 we aim to finish the walls, windows, doors and floors but this is not all we still need funds to equip the school with furniture and teaching materials, so please continue to help us to finish the new school.

La Folie School Project Estimation of Funds needed

Dear clients,
The list of prices below will give you an idea of the funds needed and show you how little it takes to improve the condition of children at school on the island, and in Laos in general.

We at La Folie have pledged 1 $ for every 10 $ donated by our clients. Like this, we can invest in the future and give back something for the hospitality and smiles we all encounter every day. The project aims to involve the villagers and parents as much as possible, and therefore, they will carry out all the labour needed to provide their children with a new school.

07 Desks for children - 12 $ each - needed 50 X
08 Bench for two children - 8 $ each - needed 50 X
09 Table and chair for teacher - 45 $ each - needed 3 X

Total cost of rebuilding the school is approximately - 9639 $
Funds collected from 2008 up to now - 6100.00 $
La Folie Contribution of 10% - 610.00 $
Total spent up to December 2011 - 4400.00 $
