An island, at its own pace
Across the Mekong from Champasak, Don Daeng is a place of village paths, rice fields and shade beneath old trees. Set off from the lodge on foot or by bicycle. There is no need to go far to find yourself somewhere quite different.

Beyond the garden
Take the smaller path
Leave the lodge and follow the paths between villages, past wooden houses and temple grounds. Further inland, the trees give way to rice fields, with buffalo grazing nearby.
Choose a short walk or a longer bicycle ride, stopping whenever something catches your eye. Our team can suggest a route to suit the weather and the time you have.
Bicycles are available at the lodge. Sandy tracks can become softer after rain.
People and place
The life of the island
Don Daeng is home to ten villages. Daily life unfolds along the paths: journeys to the fields, conversations in the shade, a greeting as you pass.
Buddhist temples and local spirit traditions are part of the island’s character. Take your time, return a sabaidee, and leave room for the small encounters that make a walk memorable.
Please ask before taking photographs of people. Dress respectfully when visiting temples and remove your shoes where required.

The river rises and the landscape turns green. Rice fields and gardens take on a different colour, while walks and bicycle rides follow the rhythm of the weather.

Don Daeng stretches for roughly eleven kilometres, with villages and paths to discover along the way. You do not need to explore it all in a day.

Setting out
Bring water and sun protection. Early morning or late afternoon can be more comfortable for exploring; choose your route around the day’s weather.
Arriving by boat
Our team coordinates your crossing to the lodge. Boat transfers operate during daylight and depend on river and weather conditions.
Across the Mekong
Continue your discovery in Champasak or visit the temple of Vat Phu. Ask us to help arrange your excursion and return crossing.
